DHP BRINGS BIG NAMES TO THE PARTY

DHP, the premier live music and club operator in the Midlands, is sharing its expertise in organising live music events with Nottingham City Council, as they work together to bring some of the biggest names in live music to the city in March.

To mark the grand opening of Nottingham’s Old Market Square after a £7 million transformation, the city is hosting an impressive two week programme of events from 22nd March to 4th April, which will include a mixture of community involvement and headline acts.

At the peak of the celebrations, on 30th/31st March, more than 10,000 people are expected to pour into the city for a huge outdoor music concert in the public square, which is one of the largest in England.

The concert is part of a whole weekend of live music, in which the team at DHP have been heavily involved. As consultants to the City Council, they have been responsible for securing chart topping acts including The Magic Numbers and Just Jack, as well as booking up-and-coming local bands and more national names for the rest of the event. They will also advise on the production and management of the event, which will be the biggest outdoor live music event in Nottingham since 2002.

George Akins, managing director of DHP, said, “We have been liaising closely with various acts, and there has been a lot of interest in performing at the Market Square event. The venue offers the capacity of an arena with all the added atmosphere of an open air event – which is something you don’t find very often in a city centre environment.

“Although we’ve been involved in large-scale events in the county in the past, it’s been great to be able to work so closely on something that means so much to the city."

Bob Chaffin, Service Manager for Arts and Events at Nottingham City Council said: “DHP have an impressive track record in staging successful live music events in Nottingham and having worked together on previous occasions with great success, it was a natural choice for us to work with the DHP team to deliver what will be a music weekend to remember”.

DHP has promoted various events across the country and brought leading performers such as U2, Oasis and David Bowie to the East Midlands. It promoted BBC Radio 1’s One Live festival and was responsible for attracting more than 100,000 people to the Nottingham City in the Park, Distortion and Extreme festivals.  This year DHP will again organise the DOT-TO-DOT festival across the city, which is expected to see 5,000 people enjoying live music across six venues.
