DHP JOINS THE DOTS
DHP, the premier live music and club operator in the Midlands, is using its expertise to organise the biggest ever Dot to Dot Festival, by increasing capacity in Nottingham and launching a sister event in Bristol.
The one day event takes place each year across Nottingham and showcases the best in new bands and DJs. Usually focused around the core locations of The Social, Stealth, Rock City and The Rescue Rooms, fans move between venues to experience more than 40 up and coming acts playing live.
This year, with the addition of The Old Angel and two new locations at Trent University, it is expected that more than 5,000 people will take part, an increase of more than 50% on last year.
The increased capacity has also allowed DHP to bring more bands to the city and incorporate a greater diversity of music. Without neglecting the cutting edge indie/electro, for the first time there will be a substantial amount of Grime and the acoustic music programme will also be extended.
Dot to Dot has a strong reputation for showcasing bands that go on to become household names - the 2006 festival saw then unknown acts including The Automatic, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and the Klaxons playing to packed audiences - and DHP is renowned for securing top names.
Fresh from the success of the official opening of Nottingham’s Market Square, which saw 10,000 people enjoying an open air concert by the Magic Numbers and Just Jack, the team is confident that Dot to Dot headliners The Cribs and Erol Alkan will draw the crowds.
This is the third year that Dot to Dot has been held in Nottingham, but the first time the concept has been introduced in Bristol, where venues will include DHP’s latest acquisition the Thekla Social, as well as Louisiana and Fiddlers.
DHP managing director George Akins believes the event will be just as popular in the south west as it is in Nottingham: “Dot to Dot provides something that’s a bit different, more exciting and more accessible (with a much lower ticket price) than the run of the mill rock event and this appeals to people.”
Dot to Dot will take place in Bristol on Saturday 26th May and in Nottingham on Sunday 27th May. Visit www.dottodotfestival.co.uk for further details.
